This crochet stitch works up fast, is very easy to do and is extremely versatile. It’s textured and there is no wrong and right side so it’s completely reversible so it’s good to use for almost anything. I’ve made ponchos, baby blankets, afghans, scarves, shawls and more with it. The weight of your project is easily adjusted by changing the size of the crochet hook you use.
Crochet a chain the desired length – the number of stitches is a multiple of 3 + 1.
First Row
2 double crochet in 4th chain from hook.
*Skip two chains
In next chain work 1 single crochet and 2 double crochet
Repeat from * across, ending with 1 single crochet in last chain.
Chain 3, turn.
Second Row
2 double crochet in first single crochet
1 single crochet and 2 double crochet in each single crochet across
End with 1 single crochet in top of turning chain.
Chain 3, turn.
Repeat second row until desired size is reached.
Is there a name for this pretty stitch?
Not that I know of.It’s one of my favorites because it works up so fast and is reversible. Using a larger hook or smaller thread can make it into a delicate, lacy item, too.
